How to Shop for Men’s Toys With Confidence
Share
You don't need expertise. You just need a little curiosity. 😉
Have you ever been shopping online, added something to your cart, stared at it for five minutes…
…and then closed the entire browser because suddenly you weren't sure if you were making the “right” choice?
Yep.
You're not alone.
When it comes to shopping for men's toys, there's often this weird expectation that you should somehow already know what you're looking for.
What size?
What style?
What sensation?
Solo or couples?
Beginner-friendly or more advanced?
And suddenly something that was supposed to be fun starts feeling like you're studying for a test you didn't know you were taking.
Good news: There is no test.
There Isn't a “Right” Toy
Here's one of the biggest things I want you to know:
You don't have to find the perfect product.
There isn't one toy that works for every person, every couple, or every situation.
What one person absolutely loves might leave someone else thinking, “Eh…not really my thing.”
And that's completely normal.
Shopping for intimacy products is personal.
It's much more like choosing a favorite restaurant than choosing the “correct” restaurant.
You try something.
You figure out what you like.
You learn what you don't.
And the next time you shop, you know a little more than you did before.
That's how confidence develops.
Start With the Question, Not the Product
Instead of scrolling through pages of products asking yourself:
“Which one am I supposed to buy?”
Try asking:
“What am I curious about?”
Maybe you're looking for something that:
- Adds a little variety to your usual routine
- Can be enjoyed together
- Is simple and beginner-friendly
- Helps with a particular type of stimulation
- Is small and discreet
- Feels playful rather than intimidating
- Gives you something new to experiment with
That question immediately makes shopping feel less overwhelming.
You're not trying to find the answer.
You're looking for something that fits your curiosity.
Beginner-Friendly Doesn't Mean Boring
Sometimes people hear “beginner” and assume that means basic, boring, or somehow less exciting.
Not at all.
Beginner-friendly simply means easy to understand and easy to incorporate.
A simple sleeve, a basic stroker, or a couples-focused toy can be a great place to start because you don't need an instruction manual and a PhD in bedroom accessories to figure it out. 😉
The goal isn't to jump straight into the most complicated option.
The goal is to find something that makes you think:
“Hmmmm…I'm curious.”
That's a pretty good place to start.
A Few Things to Consider Before You Buy
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the choices, narrow it down to a few simple questions.
1. Who is it for?
Is this primarily for solo exploration?
Something for a partner?
Something you can enjoy together?
Knowing this can eliminate a LOT of options right away.
2. What kind of experience sounds interesting?
Think about what you're hoping to add—not necessarily what you think you should want.
Are you looking for something gentle?
Something more stimulating?
Something playful?
Something that changes up your normal routine?
You don't need to know exactly what you want.
Even knowing what sounds interesting is helpful.
3. How complicated do you want it to be?
If you're brand new to toys, simple can be wonderful.
Look for products that are easy to use, easy to clean, and don't require a 17-step setup process.
Because nobody needs that kind of pressure. 😂
4. What's your comfort level?
This one matters.
You don't have to buy something just because it's popular.
You don't have to keep up with what everyone else is trying.
And you absolutely don't have to choose something you're uncomfortable with just because you think you're “supposed to.”
Curiosity should feel fun—not pressured.
And What If You Pick Something You Don't Love?
Then congratulations.
You learned something.
Seriously.
Maybe the size wasn't right.
Maybe the sensation wasn't what you expected.
Maybe you discovered that particular style just isn't your thing.
That's useful information for the next time you shop.
There doesn't have to be a dramatic failure attached to trying something new.
Sometimes the product that doesn't work for you teaches you more about what does.
You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone
And this is where I come in.
One of my favorite parts of what I do is helping people take the awkwardness out of shopping for intimacy products.
You can ask questions.
You can tell me what you're looking for.
You can tell me what you've tried before.
Or you can simply say:
“I have absolutely no idea where to start.”
That's okay too.
You don't need the right terminology.
You don't need to know product names.
You don't need to be experienced.
And you definitely don't need to be embarrassed.
We'll start with what you're curious about and go from there.
Your Permission Slip to Be Curious
If you've been thinking about trying something new but keep talking yourself out of it because you're afraid you'll choose the “wrong” thing, consider this your permission slip.
You don't have to know everything.
You don't have to find the perfect product.
You don't even have to know exactly what you're looking for yet.
You just have to be curious enough to begin.
Because confidence usually doesn't come before you explore.
It comes from exploring, learning, and discovering what works for you.
So take a peek.
See what catches your eye.
And if you have professional questions?
Ask Amy.
That's what I'm here for. 😉
